After reading the three selections, give me your impression of kristallnacht. How can a people A) get away with some like this, and B)let something like this happen to them? (100-150 words) Please make serious submissions.
After I read the three selection I was horrified about what the Nazis did. I think that the Nazi got away with this because they controlled a lot of Europe so they also controlled presses and radios. By controlling these there was almost no way for word to travel. Also The United States did not want to get involved in the war so they did not help. Also most of the Jews thought that this was an act of God and that Hitler was not doing any of it. Also they convinced people that it was the Jews fault for all of their problems so, people turned on the Jews. -Fred Morlock
People get away from something like this because some other people in the world don't want to get involved with something that they are not already in. They let this happen because they either agree with it or they don't want the same thing to happen to them selves. The people let the Germans get away with also because the other countries didn't want to go to war with Hitler and the Germans.
I think that the Germans were allowed to do this because they were in charge. They made laws and there was nothing saying they couldn't. Afterward they made laws saying that they could exterminate the Jews, so that just shws their power. The Jews let this hapen because they were scared and they had no power. They thought they couldn't stand up to anti-semitic people. They were probably so shocked that they did not know how to respond to the Germans.
"Kristallnacht" is a German word that consists of two parts: "Kristall" translates to "crystal" and refers to the look of broken glass and "Nacht" means "night." The accepted English translation is the "Night of Broken Glass."
How could this ever happen ? I don't even know how people didn't take defense. If a girl was getting her clothes ripped off and I heard her screaming, I would go help her, kick, fight, whatever I had to do. ! People in these times might have been scared, because they might of thought they were going to get hurt as well, and thats why people in these times might think, why didn't they defend themselves ? Its because they were scared, and this situation is something to be scared about.
How could someone get away with this horrible action ? People who were getting hurt and killed were scared to speak up, because they thought they might get hurt or killed by saying what they feel or defending themselves in danger. Because they didn't speak up. the Germans got away with doing this and no one did anything.
Kristallnacht was a horrible, pointless, thoughtless act of anti-semitism.It left a horrified and shocked person staring at the computer. Although I don't like it, I think the reason that someone got away with this is because Hitler gave it the O-K. Because Hitler was rather like a dictator, he could let things slide and do whatever he wanted. How could people let this happen? People were either afraid or it came back to the "it's not my problem." The police in charge wouldn't listen, because the people who attacked were German. The police were under Hitler's thumb. The police wouldn't give the attackers proper justice. People let it get this far because they either didn't know or didn't care "Not my problem." That's what the United States said, and that's what a many people said in response to Kristallnacht.
Kristallnacht is the Night of Broken Glass. What happened on this night was Hitler and his men damaged and destroyed many Jewish homes. How can they get away with something like this ? I think it is because the Germans were the people in charge. They made wrong assumptions about the Jewish people, and those assumptions led to the Germans being jerks towards them. Since they were the rulers, there was no one to tell them they couldnt. That way, they got away with the bad things they did. How could people let these kinds of things happen ? In my opinion, it's because the people who were getting mistreated and hurt were too scared to say anything, or try to get saved They thought they couldnt stand up to these horrible people, or they didnt know what to say to the Germans. The things that they did to Jews was wrong.
I think that the Nazis got away with Kristallnacht because it was a completely helpless situation for the Jews. The Nazi army was also much more threatening and dangerous than the Jews because they were trained to do this, and the Jews just had it sprung on them. The Nazi army was not stopped immediately because the Americas and other continents said "oh who cares what's happening in Germany", when they didn't know what was really happening. The Jews let something like this happen to them because they were so intimidated and shocked about what the Hitler army was putting them through. The Nazis also had powerful weapons to threaten the Jews with. And when it comes to threatening people with guns they will probably do whatever you say. This was a horrible thing that happened and I wish somebody would have stopped it earlier.
My first impression of Kristallnacht was that I didn't really understand the point. The concept was confusing because it didn't seem like the Nazis were getting much out of this. It was basically, "Let's go and smash windows in Synagogues all over Europe, and then clean the entire mess up just so we can humiliate some Jews". It seems like the Nazis were no further down the road then they were before Kristallnacht.
The reason that the Nazis were allowed to get away with this was because nobody wanted to get involved in a scrap with the Germans. They already had powerful allies in Italy and Japan, and frankly, not a lot of other forces really cared enough to put the effort into what was "not their job". Russia eventually decided to fight to protect the Jews, but by then, the damage had been done.
The Jews didn't fight back to the Nazis in large part for the same reason that the Nazis got away with the Holocaust internationally; nobody wanted to fight back. The Jews didn't really have an army that was sufficient enough to protect themselves. They were more of a community than they were a government with special defenses. A big part of the reason they didn't fight back, however, was that they thought that this was God's doing and that He would get them out of it. That idea didn't really work out too well.
I think the reason the nazis got away with this because no one wanted to stand up for the jews. I think no one stood up for the jews was because everyone thought if they stood up they would get killed and no one wanted to get killed. I think people let this happen because the Nazis were to over powering with there army and if any one stood in there way the Nazis would kill them. Also no one might of liked the jews so they would not do anything and the nazis would do anything they wanted to the jews.
I think that the Nazis got away with the Kristallnacht because people feared the Nazis. The Nazis slaughtered people fast and without question, this intimidated and scared people very much. People who resented the Nazis new not to speak against or do anything against the Nazis because the Nazis would kill them. That is why they did not speak up. They let this happen to them because yet again they new if they spoke up they would be shot, and because there were many Nazis and they had better weapons.
After reading the stories I was left with a sour taste in my mouth. There is only one reason people can get away with this: people are naive. Not always, but they can be just SO NAIVE when it truly counts. A Jewish teen kills a high-ranking Jewish officer. One of Hitler's little puppets announces that "anti-Jewish demonstrations (pogroms) although not organized by the Nazi Party 'would not be hampered."' * And now we are expected to believe that it is the fault of the Jews if drunken psychos on a mission destroy Jewish homes and businesses, which, according to said puppet, now HURTS the German economy? SEEMS LEGIT. When you mix one person saying clearly senseless things, and one naive person, the result will ALWAYS be two people being senseless. One says it, and the other believes it. Multiply this by most of the world's population, and the result is Kristallnacht, and the Holocaust. *http://www.holocaustresearchproject.org/holoprelude/kristallnacht.html ~Rachel
